What is Nello Pay, Neonomics and Open Banking?
Neonomics
Neonomics is a leading Nordic open banking provider originating from Oslo, Norway, with headquarters in Sweden and Finland. Our goal is to create intuitive financial products for both businesses and customers.
And what is Open Banking?
Open banking allows licensed payment providers, like us, to make direct account-to-account payments from your bank account straight to the merchants’. We work under an EU regulation known as PSD2 that fosters more choice, innovation and enhanced security in payments services.
What is Nello Pay and how does it work?
Nello Pay is a forward-thinking payment method. Nello Pay incorporates pay by bank - a faster, safer and easier way to pay, into everyday payment methods. Pay by bank utilises open banking technology to facilitate payments directly from your bank account – without the need to use a card.
It's easy peasy, lemon squeezy 🍋
Click the payment button provided by the business. When you're ready to complete your purchase, select the "Pay by Bank" option.
Select your bank: You’ll see a list of trusted banks—select yours, and you'll be redirected to your bank’s secure authentication page.
Complete the payment securely: Select the account you would like to pay from and authorize the payment the same way you normally do a payment such as with a PIN, faceID, BankID or similar.
Your payment will go directly from your bank to the business—safe and simple!
What is Nello AI?
Nello AI is a Personal Finance Management app from Neonomics that leverages open banking and generative AI to improve how we budget, save and manage our finances. It will be available to consumers, banks and businesses in 2025.
Are there any fees to use your service?
Short and sweet — No.
When you pay by bank or card, the transaction fee is paid by the business or merchant you are paying. Pay by bank is a substantially less expensive alternative for businesses, compared to card payments. Card payments are also subject to interest rates and fees that are part of your agreement with your card provider and are outside of this payment process.
As a responsible payment provider, we try to keep the rising cost of card transactions as low as possible for the businesses and merchants that use our services. Offering cost-effective alternatives, like pay by bank, is one of those ways.
Why are Neonomics’ social media channels the best on the internet?
Because they’re run by a certified Gen Z professional who know how to make a payments company look cooler than your favorite influencer.
Expect chaos, dance moves, and oddly relatable finance content.
Don't take my word for granted. See if for yourself.
Are finance guys... hot? Like, objectively?
We’re not saying it. The data is.
Statistically speaking, people who understand APIs, PSD2, and compound interest just radiate a certain je ne sais quoi 💼🔥

What’s the vibe at Neonomics?
Imagine a fintech startup…
Now give it good taste in memes, a love for Norwegian waffles, and a serious obsession with smooth payments.
That’s us.
How does a payment with Neonomics work?
When you initiate a payment using a merchant or invoice provider, you first have to provide consent authorized with Secure Customer Authentication (BankID, MitId or similar), which enables a secure connection to your personal bank account.
You must then provide another consent authorized with Secure Customer Authentication to make a payment from your chosen account (enabled through Neonomics’ Payment Initiation Service). Your consent instructs us to initiate a payment from your personal bank account, on your behalf.

What data does Neonomics process about me?
When you authorize Neonomics access to your bank or when a digital service provider uses our services on your behalf, we will have access to your account data that is required for the service you are using. Depending on how you interact with us and for what purpose, we collect and process different types of personal data about you, but never more than is necessary to perform the specific service you have requested. For example, if you are making a payment and request Neonomics to fetch information from your bank, we will only receive and use account name, account balance, account type, the name of the account owner, but not transaction history. If you request the product Account Insights, we will also fetch transaction history, as this is necessary to perform this service.

Something still unclear?
Why does Neonomics ask for transaction history, and how do you use it?
When Neonomics Account Information Services are used by the merchant or invoice provider, we are sending a request to the bank to retrieve account information. In this request, the bank will provide access to account details for the specific accounts where you have provided consent, this access includes account details such as balance and transaction history for the account.
However, just because the bank provides this information, does not mean that the merchant or invoice provider you are using, will hold or use this information. In the case of a payment, we are only using the information that is necessary for initiating an individual payment. We do not use this AIS consent for anything else. For information on how your service providers process your data, please refer to their terms and conditions. Neonomics is fully committed to protecting your individual rights and keeping your personal data safe.

Is Neonomics safe and secure to use?
Yes, Neonomics is safe. And much safer than many other alternative payment methods.
Our open banking platform uses your chosen bank’s security layer plus Strong Customer Authentication (SCA), meaning they’re able to make sure it’s you initiating the transaction. Under PSD2, retailers never collect any security information for financial transactions. You never have to provide your bank details to anyone but the bank itself, making it at least as safe as online banking.

How safe and secure is to pay by bank?
When you use the pay by bank method through Nello Pay, there is no need to enter card details or account numbers.Instead, we use multi-factor authentication provided through your bank’s own security systems as well as end-to-end data encryption over a secure and dedicated bank API.
If you pay by card using Nello Pay, the payment is processed through Worldline, our card payment service provider, using 3D Secure and tokenization to encrypt your card details. Whichever way you pay, you can rest assured that your payment is safe and secure.
